Local Healthwatch Pathfinder

Gloucestershire County Council, Gloucestershire Local Involvement Network and its host, Gloucestershire Rural Community Council were invited by the Department of Health to participate in its pathfinder programme in 2011.  The aim of the programme is to inform the transition from LINk to Local Healthwatch.

A short helpful reminder about Local Healthwatch is available at:

Gloucestershire’s Pathfinder Project

The aim of the project is to develop a communications and relationships protocol that will enable the new healthwatch and the voluntary and community sector to work together collaboratively so that local views and experiences are used to inform the commissioning and decommissioning of services and so improve outcomes for local people.  Healthwatch is represented on the Health & Wellbeing Board as a full voting member, sharing its collective responsibility.  A key responsibility of this Board is to reduce health inequalities and it will need to take views and experiences into account when it does this.

Progress to date

The project has been undertaken by 3 reps from the LINk/GRCC and 3 reps from the voluntary sector, facilitated by GCC.  It is now at a stage to be able to bring back a draft protocol for discussion with the VCS Health & Community Wellbeing Strategy Group.  The protocol, that can be downloaded above, is a working document and will be updated in the light of discussions.
