About the Compact

What is the Gloucestershire Compact?

The Gloucestershire Compact is an agreement between key local public sector agencies (including county and district authorities) and the voluntary and community sector, to support and improve partnership working between the sectors.

The Gloucestershire Compact sets out values, principles and commitments on how best the sectors can work together to achieve more for the local community.  It is underpinned by six Codes of Practice which contain specific undertakings for the public sector and the voluntary and community sector, as well as a series of joint undertakings, to improve partnership working.

Someone else’s office is the place to be! Consider Compact Shadowing

Curious about public sector partners?  Want to find out more about a particular voluntary organisation or an area of work?

GAVCA Partnerships Team is able to broker shadowing opportunities between the voluntary and community sector and the public sector in the county.

You can either offer to be a host to someone wanting to take up a shadowing opportunity, or you can shadow someone from a different sector yourself – and it’s even better if you do both!

The aim of  the Gloucestershire Compact is to improve the relationships  between the public and voluntary / community sectors and the Compact Shadowing Programme helps to do this through increasing participants’ understanding what’s it’s like “on the other side”. In 2009 over forty people took part.  All participants found it a hugely positive and interesting experience.  One commented:

“I have a greater understanding of the huge amount of knowledge and experience that they [the VCS] can contribute to the strategic planning process”
