GCC leader lays out plans to meet the ‘Big Challenge’ to VCS Assembly Board
Gloucestershire County Council leader Mark Hawthorne attended a special meeting of the VCS Assembly Board yesterday and presented his view of the challenges GCC faces and how it will approach meeting them.  Board members responded by reiterating what the VCS can offer, the value of the VCS Assembly and with questions and comments.

Mark explained that GCC would have to save £120million over 3 years and that the values of (1) living within our means (2) providing the basics and (3) helping communities help themselves would underpin how decisions on savings would be made.  He also laid out a timeline for consultation on how these savings should be made and for acting on decisions.

There will be a partnership consultation event (date to be confirmed) and public consultation events in each district in September.
The public consultation events will be:

  • Stroud 12 September
  • Cheltenham 18 September
  • Forest 22 September
  • Cotswolds 23 September
  • Gloucester 24 September
  • Tewkesbury 29 Sept

Further details will follow in the local press and in future bulletins.

Gloucestershire Compact Consultation launched – deadline 11 November
During 2010, the Gloucestershire Compact is undergoing a refresh to ensure it continues to be useful in supporting and improving partnership working between the county’s voluntary and community sector and public sector.

The Gloucestershire Compact Group, the county’s multi-sector steering group which oversees the implementation of the Compact, would like your views on whether the redrafted Codes and the new Compact Mediation Procedure are appropriate, useful and clear.

To read the redrafted Codes and submit your views, visit the Gloshub website at www.gloshub.org.uk/consultations.html#compact.  and either complete a downloadable questionnaire or follow the link to Survey Monkey.

There will also be an opportunity for you to discuss the refreshed Codes and contribute your views at a consultation meeting.  The first of these that is confirmed will be held on Monday 4th October 2010 11-1pm at GAVCA, 75-81 Eastgate Street, Gloucester GL1.

You can download more information and the consultation questions or attend a consultation meeting on Tuesday 19th October 12:00-1:30 at GAVCA in Gloucester (bring your lunch!).  To book your place at this event contact .
